A Wrinkle in Time

The alarm is going off and I'm laying there wondering when my wife is going to hit the snooze bar. It's November 8th and this day is starting off like any other. The sun is trying to peak through the drawn shades reminding me that it is morning and my dog is standing there looking at me reminding me that he hasn't been outside since last night. It is the day after the elections and the GOP lost a lot of tight races including control of the House and, soon to be known, the Senate. Sean Hannity's nightmarish warnings of Speaker Pelosi are going to come true.

So why is this day like any other? Well, God is still in control (His Sovereignty has not been challenged), I still woke up in America (the symbol of freedom and democracy to the world), and President Bush still has the power of the veto (at least until 2008). The coming weeks will unfold and many of the irresponsible policies of the left will be backed off to some degree at least in terms of volume and rhetoric. This will happen partly because they realize the need for being responsible leaders and the gravity of their decisions (wishful thinking perhaps), and partly because they have some power now and can stop the temper tantrums. Only time will tell how much of that will hold up and reveal their real plan for bipartisanship, so that they can accomplish something for our country with the President and their conservative colleagues.

Why did the GOP lose so big? There will be lots of finger pointing and ideas that will be bounced around over the next few weeks. Some I will agree with and some I won't, but the major thing for me is the tone of the discussion. Here I will be disappointed in a lot of people, but that is life at times. My hope is that the GOP will again be united in their plan and purpose, so that the back biting and internal squabbles that lead to the message of disunity put out this campaign cycle will be corrected. My hope is that the corruption the MSM was all too happy to focus on within the GOP and largely ignore elsewhere will be dealt with judiciously. And this little wrinkle in time, this minor set back in conservative governance called 2006 will be viewed in the perspective worthy of this great democratic republic.

Samuel Adams
Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual -- or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.
May we all take our role in society and the shaping of this government to heart as we think through the issues our country is facing and will be facing in the future. God is still in control, this is still America and President Bush still has the veto. Posted by price at November 30, 2006 01:43 PM | TrackBack
