“It's 11:11 make a wish!”
Many of us are familiar with this old fantasy like desire. We all have day dreams of something better for our lives; be it a materialistic or romantic hope. This is just one of those small things we do on a daily basis or whenever we notice the clock at that magical time, that make us think on our day dreams.
It is a wonderful gift that we have the ability to dream and look to our futures with hope. These are ideas we need to hold onto and never relinquish, no matter how dire our circumstances. Many people live in a world without hope, without any dreams at all.
These unfortunate individuals may or may not be impoverished financially. Despair and pain do not see any race, gender or economic barriers to the heart. But just as infectious, if not more so, but definitely more powerful is the affect of optimism and hope for the future.
Our country faces a reminder of what happened to us not long ago and we bear the fresh wounds of the latest attack of despair. We can either crumble under the weight of sadness or look to our hope for tomorrow through the unity of our hearts today.
Since September 11th, every time I notice the clock strike eleven minutes past the ninth hour; I have stopped and said a prayer for the victim’s families and for our country. I continue to do that out of hope for the future of our nation and now see that in a broader context than just that fateful day four years ago. There is great need for unity and not division. And I implore anyone who wishes to join me in a prayer for unity, a prayer for hope and a prayer for tomorrow. The wish from 11:11 has been replaced by the hope of 9:11 in my heart.
It’s 9:11…what is your hope for the future?

The hope for my future is that George Bush'll act like the [expletive deleted] President and fire the incompotent boob Michael Brown who is doing a horrible job running FEMA. What happened to New Orleans was one of the top three predicted disasters likely to occur in the US, and it's FEMA's job to know that and be prepared. Do you feel safe?

Posted by: Ashley at September 23, 2005 10:44 AMAs awful as 9/11 was for the United States, don't you see that the US was reaping what it had sown? People don't hate the US just for the hell of it. They hate the US because it is a war-mongering nation that feels addictively drawn to asserting its will on the rest of the world without listening to the rest of the world: a tragic combination of evils. And what is more, the people responsible for 9/11 don't hate the US for the generalized reason I just gave, they hate it for the specific reason that since WWII US policies have impoverished, sickened and murdered too much for them to bear any longer. All this talk about freedom: America is a lot more adept at bringing death to the world than freedom.
Posted by: dave at September 24, 2005 01:20 PMSorry to read about your bleak view of the USA. There are a lot of faulty presuppositional assertions there and unfortunately you see despair where there is hope. However, there is hint of truth here. This sinful fallen world is daily given reminders to look towards a greater nation, a greater hope than any available in this world. The failure to heed the daily reminder of turning away from sin and towards God does cause more pain and suffering in the world. No country, no nation is free from reaping that sown truth.
Posted by: Jeff Price at September 26, 2005 01:44 PMMaybe we should stop looking TOWARDS GOD to bring peace into this world, and look into ourselves. People have been killing in God's name since the beginning of time. I hardly see how bringing Him further into this fight will solve a thing. It will NOT bring about peace. It's not about sin or heaven or hell or God. It's about stupid people making stupid decisions in the NAME OF GOD.
Now, I have nothing against God. I love Him. I've gone to church since before I could walk. My dad's a preacher. But I'm a christian who despises christians like yourself. Your "God" blinds you to the truth out there, and keeps you from seeing the true evil: people like yourself who want everybody else in the world to believe the same way you do and who are so blindly patriotic. Amazing how the most peaceful and forgiving people I know never want to be a christian. They believe in compassion and honesty and forgiveness, and don't hide themselves behind a man-made lie that God will bring them peace.
When God actually comes down and tells me to kill off another soul in this world, I'll do it. Until then, there is absolutely no reason to bomb, maim, or kill in any other way anybody who doesn't take the bible as the "ultimate truth."
The people that attacked us want us dead because we killed their own people. I'm not it makes it right, but they do have their heart-felt reasons. The "terrorists" are not attacking democracy or freedom or our right to vote; they just want peace in their own spirits knowing that we have suffered as much as they have.
Many of the people in the Middle-East who have had family and friends murdered by the orders of greedy politicians in our country don't want revenge. They want to spend their lives with their families just as we do. They want to have kids and grow up and enjoy life. Sound like yourself?
When we truly, peacefully bring democracy to another country, I might be a little patriotic. Hardly, but a little. You'll have to put up a heck of an argument to convince me that that's what we've done with this war. Innocent people (US soldiers and Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. country's civilians alike) are dying for YOUR God, YOUR democracy, YOUR freedom. Hardly seems a free trade to me.
