Today is exactly one week before the election, and my wife and I have chosen to make this a day of prayer and fasting. We would urge anyone that can, to join us during this time or set aside a day before the election to do so. This is not for us to place our futures in any particular candidate, but our hope that the Lord will honor us and place a godly man in the Oval Office. Our hope is that our nation will be reminded of their need for godly men in positions of power and they will turn their hopes for a brighter future toward the Lord.
We know that God is fully in control of this election and there is no authority over His. This is something that we trust in completely and no matter who wins the election, we will take comfort in the knowledge of God’s purposes over ours. (Romans 13:1)
What does a godly man look like? He is set apart from other men (Psalm 4:3) and has a zeal for the Lord (Psalm 32: 6). A godly man is humble and reverent, so that he may serve and honor God with his whole self. He has the knowledge of God and holiness in his life. He has reverence for God and a life of holiness in the world. (Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology)
Hugh Hewitt says the, “the key to influencing the world in the right way is the gospel.” This is foundational to choosing the President of the United States of America because as the lone super power in the world, who has more influence than we do? Obviously the answer to that question is God and the gospel message recognizes this universal truth. This is why we feel so strongly about a man of faith, a man of God being our President. We want to see the influence our country has in the world, given to us by God, used in a manner that will bring the gospel message of hope, redemption and love to all.
So forget about your particular political candidate and offer up your life to a loving father, a sacrificial brother and an overwhelming living spirit. That is more important than any ballot that will be cast next week.
