Doom and Gloom

Democratic Battle Cry:
Jules Winnfield, “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.” (fictitious Bible verse)

 "Kerry's Coalition of the Wild-eyed"

How very different from the Battle Cry of the Republic?! I'll take "a bright future" to "doom and gloom" any day.

If I recall correctly, this is quoted in the movie Pulp Fiction by Jewls character. I can't remember what Bible reference he uses.

Frankly, I'm surprised anyone can link to - and tacitly approve of - that ad, which features Adolf Hitler at the same level as Democrats. Talk about unethical and disgusting.

Thia - the fictitious Bible verse is supposedly Ezekiel 25:17, but Tarentino took some liberties with it. Actually, he completely changed it and it's context. For more info on that check out - Secrets of Pulp fiction (http://www.godamongdirectors.com/tarantino/faq/secrets.html)

Epiph - I truly hope you believe that the use of Hitler's image as a comparison to any modern leader of the free world is equally "unethical and disgusting" and I would agree with you there. However, as the ad points out, these comparisons are not being made by the Bush campaign to Democrats, but are showing the Democratic talking heads comparing Bush to Hitler. If you believe the later is okay but the former is not, then you are being intellectually dishonest.

You should be outraged at the use of this comparison, but you should also be aware of where that outrage should be directed. The Bush campaign can not be faulted for pointing you in the right direction.

I've watched the ad again, and your analysis is wrong. Nowhere in the ad do any Dems compare Bush to Hitler. It's simply the talking heads, yelling, intermingled with Hitler yelling. It's pretty clear that it's Bush's campaign that is making the immoral comparison, not the Dems' campaign.

I'm afraid you aren't looking very closely at these ads. Here are some links that will show you the facts about the origins of the Hitler images:

The Moveon ad was submitted as part of a contest, and was not part of Kerry's campaign. In fact, it wasn't even approved by Moveon.

Bush's campaign took the ad from moveon.org and used it for their own campaign. They approved the ad and are using it as part of their campaign, something that Kerry would never stoop to.

Again, Moveon.org does not equal John Kerry. In addition, Moveon.org did not even sponsor the original commercial. However, Bush's campaign not only sponsored their Hitler ad, it is running it on their very web site.

I hope that clears things up for you regarding this, or perhaps you're too much of an apologist for Bush to see his lack of ethics.

Frankly, I don't think you read the two articles you posted here very clearly. Either that or you had a very selective skimming of them and ignored statements like, "well-known Democrats, shrill statements" and:

Mehlman said this new campaign ad was created to "show the depths to which these Kerry supporters will sink to win in November."

"Is this the Democratic Party of Franklin Delano Roosevelt who reassured his countrymen we have nothing to fear but fear itself?," Mehlman inquired.

"No," he answered. "This is John Kerry's Coalition of the Wild-eyed, who have nothing to offer but fear-mongering."

Furthermore, Moveon doesn’t need to equal John Kerry to show his lack of backbone to stand up and denounce the organization for, in fact, running and sponsoring the original ads as you misstated above.

You may believe that I am an apologist for Bush and that is fine, but your illogical conclusion of his lack of ethics in the face of blatant fear-mongering and the lack of responsibility for the conception of the original ads just won’t fly here. Thank you for your thoughts just the same.
